Netflix is promoting the Tiger Baby co-produced film as a "musical experience bursting with youth, rebellion, friendships, first loves, and everything young adult, it still promises to have something for every generation."
It will debut on the streaming service in 2023.
Director Akhtar is most known for the buzzy 2020 Mumbai hip-hop culture-themed romance musical Gully Boy.
The Archies will be available on Netflix India in an increasingly crowded Indian streaming market. A number of major film and television projects have been announced recently by ZEE5 and Amazon Prime Video, both of which feature prominent Indian actors and filmmakers. Akhtar and Tiger Baby co-founder Reema Kagti, for example, are working with Excel Media to produce a serial killer drama, Dahaar for Amazon.
