John Abhraham on His New Movie Attack, The Bollywood Industry And Nature Of Sequels
At the moment, John Abraham is anticipating the release of his film Attack. In a recent interview, he stated that with new talent entering the profession, the industry will stop "belting out crap." He claims that he got lost somewhere along the line and wishes to return.
The actor was accompanied by Attack director Lakshya Raj Anand and music director Shaswant Sachdev during an interview with Tried & Refused Productions, a Youtube channel.
“I had a franchise that worked, and I belted out something that was just the opposite for the second part,” John explained. “Why did I do it? Because I succumbed to the diktats of commercialism. And because it was part two, I said, ‘Hey, listen…’ And if you see all the part twos that are releasing now, it’s like…”
John was last seen in the box-office failure Satyamev Jayate 2. This Friday, the film Attack will be released in theatres. "I’m not trying to hard-sell this film,” he continued. “ I have no qualms about it being ripped apart for something I’ve done badly. The fact of the matter is, if you don’t call a spade a spade, you’re going to be stuck.”
John also pointed out that Lakshya gets 'crazy' when it comes to marketing the film, and that being on The Kapil Sharma Show doesn't guarantee increased ticket sales. He used the example of The Kashmir Files, which had little marketing but still went on to become a success , whereas an 'over-marketed movie' failed.
“Lakshya took me to Kapil's show, saying ‘I want you to be on Kapil Sharma’. I like Kapil, he’s a nice boy, but it doesn’t translate to ticket sales.” he remarked.
