Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz will appear alongside Anthony Mackie, in the television series adaptation  of the video game Twisted Metal. In addition to Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Production, the project secured a series order from American streaming service Peacock, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Twisted Metal follows the story of John Doe, a milkman with no memory of his past. He'll be given a second chance to carry an unknown parcel through a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

While working with a gun-toting auto burglar, the young man will have to contend with vicious marauders in wrecked cars and other perils of the open road, including the crazed clown driving an all too familiar ice cream truck.

John Doe will be  played by Mackie in the series.

Beatriz will play the role of Quiet, a vicious and badass vehicle thief, who operates based only on her gut instincts. "Coming from a community that oppressed her into silence, Quiet wishes to find her place in this dark, chaotic world. But when she becomes clouded by her need for revenge, Quiet forms an unlikely, antagonistic bond with John Doe."The description of the character was read.

Deadpool authors Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick came up with the initial concept for Twisted Metal.

Michael Jonathan Smith, along with Reese, and Wernick, will write the show.

According to the announcement made earlier, Anthony Mackie will star in and executive produce the TV series. According to a report in February 2021, the show was in the early stages of creation.

In addition to penning the scripts, showrunner and executive producer duties will also go to Michael Jonathan Smith. Reese and Wernick will also be serving as executive producers. Along with Mackie, executive producers Will Arnett and Marc Forman will be working with Electric Avenue to help bring this concept to fruition. Executive producers also include Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst. All three of these companies are involved in the production of the series.

Twisted Metal has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation, led by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, that blew us away,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Also Anthony Mackie starring made it undeniable!”

The first Twisted Metal PlayStation game was released in 1995. Sony was first rumored  to be interested in making a series based on the games in 2019.

Twisted Metal is one of PlayStation’s most beloved franchises,” according to PlayStation Productions CEO Qizilbash. “We are thrilled to have such an amazing creative team and partners working together who have such passion for this iconic property. We can’t wait for fans to see what we have planned for them.”
